The Ultimate Adventure.

URUMBILUM CANYON
The Ultimate Adventure
Our biggest adventure. Urumbilum is for canyoners ready for the next level.
“Urumbilum was one of the best days of my life! I had no idea what to expect but I could never have imagined it to be as amazing as it was. So much FUN!”
Remote, highly aquatic and technically demanding, Urumbilum Canyon is the biggest adventure in the Coffs Canyons line-up. A long day, big waterfall descents and almost non-stop action make this a serious canyoning experience for people ready to take things up a level.
It’s also Leo’s personal favourite, and for good reason. Urumbilum has just about everything: big waterfall abseils, deep pools, countless jumps and slides, canyon zip-lines and a spectacular journey through one of the wildest canyon environments on the Coffs Coast.
Our trip begins high in the headwaters of the pristine Urumbilum River. Up here, the river flows peacefully through incredible rainforest, giving little indication of what lies downstream. We swim, float and scramble our way along the river until the walls begin to close in and Urumbilum suddenly plunges into a narrow canyon.
This is where the real adventure begins.
Early in the descent we reach the infamous Slot, where a 55-metre abseil sends you down through the canyon and directly through the flow of the waterfall.
From here, the action keeps coming. More abseils, deep pools, jumps and slides eventually bring us to one of the canyon’s most unique obstacles — our abseil-to-zip-line.
The final major obstacle is the spectacular 60m Mirrong Falls.
Urumbilum is a remote and committing adventure requiring excellent fitness, confidence in water and comfort with heights. Previous canyoning, abseiling or relevant outdoor experience is strongly recommended.
The ultimate adventure
BIG WATER.
BIG ADVENTURE.
Remote, highly aquatic and technically demanding, Urumbilum is our biggest canyoning adventure and Leo’s personal favourite. Follow the river from its tranquil headwaters into a world of deep pools, powerful waterfalls and towering rock walls.
Early in the day, you'll tackle the infamous 'Schlitz Slot'. A 55 metre abseil straight through the full flow of the waterfall. More abseils, swims, and jumps follow, with an abseil-to-zip-line along the way.
The finale is 60-metre Mirrong Falls, descended in two stages: 20 metres to a small ledge, then a transition into a 40-metre waterfall abseil. A steep 300-metre ascent completes the day.

GOOD TO KNOW.
Can I book with fewer than four people?
Departures require a minimum of four participants, with a maximum of eight. If your group is smaller, contact us about joining another group or securing the minimum booking.
What does the day involve?
Meet in Coramba, then travel with us to the canyon. After equipment fitting, a safety briefing and instruction, we swim, float, scramble and abseil downstream through the rainforest.
The early 55-metre Schlitz Slot abseil is followed by more waterfalls, deep pools, roped traverses and a canyon zip-line. Mirrong Falls is 60 metres high and descended in two stages of 20 and 40 metres. The walk back takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and climbs 300 metres up a very steep hill.
Allow 9–10 hours in total, including 6–7 hours in the canyon. The route and features used depend on conditions and guide judgement.
Do I need previous canyoning experience?
Previous canyoning, abseiling or relevant outdoor experience is strongly recommended. Highly fit and capable participants may be suitable without canyoning experience, but should contact us first.
You need excellent fitness, full mobility and confidence in deep, fast-moving water, at heights and on slippery, uneven terrain. Read the full participation requirements.
Do I have to jump or slide?
No. Jumps and slides are optional, and we won’t pressure you into an optional challenge. Your guide will provide an alternative where one is available.
Abseiling is part of the trip. Water levels, weather and guide judgement determine which features can be used; jumps, slides and zip-lines shown in photos or video are not guaranteed on every departure.
Where do we meet? Can I get a pickup?
The meeting location is Coramba. Transport between the meeting point and the canyon is included.
Pickup or an alternative meeting location may be arranged. Contact us to discuss arrangements before your trip.
What should I bring?
We provide specialist canyoning and safety equipment, lunch and snacks. You’ll still need to bring the personal clothing, footwear and other items specified in your trip information.
Read the what-to-bring advice in our FAQs, and contact us before booking if you have a medical condition, injury or equipment question that could affect your participation.
What if the weather changes or I need to cancel?
Trips depend on weather, water levels and access. We may change, postpone or cancel an adventure when conditions are unsuitable.
If we cancel and cannot provide a reasonable alternative, you may choose a transfer, booking credit or refund of the trip price paid to us. Customer cancellation options depend on how much notice you give. Read the full booking and cancellation terms before booking.
Who will be guiding us?
Your trip is led by two highly trained, qualified canyoning guides. Coffs Canyons was founded by Leo, who began guiding professionally in 2019 and has guided in the Blue Mountains and New Zealand.
Groups are limited to 8 participants. Meet Leo and learn about Coffs Canyons
